Monday....First Work day!

Welp, waking up early seems to be what I'm use to and just because I'm not at home and have to work, doesn't mean my body clock isn't still ticking...so while I was awake, I decided to take a trek to the roof. Its ok, its flat.....our spiral staircase continues to the top. WOW...It was well worth the trip to the top. What a view..... I watched life in the Domincan Republic without being noticed. This is a community where the 10 of us...were the only white people, and going anywhere was interesting. So this way, I watched them, they didn't see me.....(sneaky....)

It was quiet, with the exception of the sound of motorbikes with their owners, puttering off to work. With the cost of gas WAY over $6. a gallon.....its the only way to go. (but then, its what most of them ride anyway.

So after a wonderful breakfast of hard boiled eggs with cheese and FRESH fruit....we headed off to the work site...... This trip, we were lucky. The humidity wasn't nearly what it was like in Aug/Sept. Not only that, we had a breeze constantly. Standing under a tree was delightful. But the sun was HOT...very very HOT!

So here we are, standing in an open field, picks and shovels in hand...well, sharing them... with the sun BEATING down. Well, for us older folks....(I'm only talking about me here) It took a lot out of me...took me longer to recover than it did for the work I did. So many breaks were to be had. Not just by me, but by a few of the girls. The heat and work was grueling. But our hearts were there. So while we gathered our strength, we played....literally, with the kids. We brought LOTS of toys for them to play with. It not only keeps them out of the way, but they get to interact with unfamiliar people. Some of the kids, we recognized from prior trips. WOW they were so grown. The first time we saw them was almost 3 years ago......I almost didn't recognize some of them..... oh, and the kids LOVE to have their picture taken...and then see it right away....a simple thrill!!!!!

OK, back to the digging.....yeah, there was a lot of that. Oh, the backhoe I mentioned in the beginning? We're still waiting for it.....
so digging it was.....and picking....and digging....and picking....YOU'LL SEE!
